Visual Stories: Women's Experiences through Photography and Video

Visual narrative places the viewer within a moment. This section explains the photo and video works produced in the workshops and their production principles.

Responsibility of Representation

A photograph is always a choice: who is left out of the frame is as meaningful as who is included. This was the most discussed topic in the workshops.

Working Principles

• The person being photographed knows and approves how the frame will be used.
• Poverty and violence are not aestheticized.
• The person is not reduced to the event they experienced; their daily life also enters the frame.
• Images of children are used only with parental consent and with their faces obscured.

Technical Minimum

A phone camera is sufficient for most work. Natural light, a steady hand, and clear sound are more decisive than expensive equipment. For video, a duration of 3-5 minutes is the most efficient range for online viewing.

Sharing

You can share your productions in the feed and open them up for discussion in the relevant group. Writing alt text for images ensures accessibility for visually impaired users.
