Artistic Works of Women in Greece and Turkey

SANATLA is a binational project. It was intended not to compare, but to place side-by-side the works of women artists from Turkey and Greece.

Common Ground

In both countries, women artists face similar thresholds: imbalance in gallery and fund access, interrupted production due to care burden, the label of "woman artist" narrowing the work.

Diverging Aspects

Institutional support mechanisms, municipal culture budgets, and the density of independent spaces operate differently in the two countries. In Greece, access to EU funds is more established; in Turkey, the tradition of independent collectives is stronger.

Collaborative Production Experiences

Joint workshops were held during reciprocal visits organized within the project. The language barrier was overcome quickly, contrary to expectations: visual production provided a common language.

Continuation

The network continues to keep members from both countries on the same platform even after the project ends. Members who wish to produce collaborative work can join the relevant working group from the Groups section.
